Understanding Pool Liner Thickness

Swimming pool contractors throughout the United States choose Kayden Manufacturing time and time again because of the quality and durability of our vinyl pool liners. Our goal is to be upfront and honest in our communications, so our installers have a clear understanding regarding the quality of our products.

However, we’d like to dispel a common miscommunication regarding the marketing of vinyl pool liner thickness by other vinyl pool liner manufacturers.

When shopping around for pool liner manufacturers, it’s important not to confuse a vinyl’s gauge with its mil thickness. Oftentimes, manufacturers will use gauge when referring to a vinyl’s thickness.

As noted in our FAQ section, this nomenclature is very misleading and not correct. Gauge refers to the amount of something that actually fits into a particular gauge.

No established or official gauge measurements exist for vinyl. Vinyl is measured in mils, thousandths of an inch.

So, when comparing the thicknesses of vinyl pool liners from different companies, make sure you compare apples to apples — this case being mils to mils!

Vinyl pool liners are available in a variety of thicknesses. For example, Kayden Manufacturing offers wall and bottom thicknesses in 27 mil.

We believe this measurement offers lasting and superior protection, while still providing a level of elasticity. Although basic information online regarding the pros and cons of different thicknesses of vinyl pool liners exist (check out the brief synopsis on eBay), we urge installers to call us to discuss why we manufacture our vinyl liners the way we do.

If you’re a pool liner installer or pool professional looking for a pool liner manufacturer, invest in your next pool project with confidence. Use Kayden Manufacturing’s products for your customer’s swimming pool needs.
