Change Your Pool Liner in the Fall

Chances are your in-ground pool is not covered, leaving it vulnerable to everyday weather-related wear and tear. Taking care of a pool liner is a year-round task.

From testing the water in the summer, to winterizing for the winter, and making sure that snow doesn’t cause collapse, at some point, your pool liner will be damaged.

And when damage occurs to your pool liner, you’ll have to decide when the right time is to replace it.

If you have a liner in a state of disrepair, then there’s a possibility you’ll lose all of your water. The best time to change your liner is now. Here’s why:

  • Replacing a liner is nearly impossible when the weather is very cold. Many believe they can put off the replacement until next spring. This is simply untrue. Waiting this long could cause worse damage and even collapse. In the wintertime, the colder temperatures and possibility of rainwater and snow make installing liners with certainty more difficult.
  • If a pool loses water and sits for a long time, its walls can collapse. Having a ripped or leaky pool liner can lead to loss of water. With age, liners get stiffer and brittle. If the pool liner continues to rip — and the rip continues to grow — then there’s a strong possibility you may lose all the water. A loss of water takes away from the structural integrity of the pool, and eventually, the pool can collapse!
  • Time your liner replacement right, and you can find great prices on pool liners. Many companies are clearing out their inventory of liners liners they have left for this summer and are making the last push before winter. Workers are less rushed during this season and are better able to perform speedy installations thanks to having a more open schedule.
